Should Freight Brokerage Sales Agents Be Federally Registered?

Should Freight Brokerage Sales Agents Be Federally Registered? | Do You Even Freight? **Should freight brokerage sales agents be required to register with FMCSA, verify their identities, and meet federal training standards?** A newly filed petition from Enterprise Auto Transport is raising major questions about freight fraud, broker accountability, unauthorized brokerage activity, and government oversight in the trucking and logistics industry. On this **Finally Friday edition of Do You Even Freight?**, Shimmi, Kevin, and John dive into a heated discussion about who should be allowed to sell transportation services under a licensed freight broker's MC authority. With plenty of audience participation and strong opinions from the hosts, this conversation tackles an issue that could have significant implications for freight brokers, independent agents, motor carriers, and transportation customers. Enterprise Auto Transport's petition asks the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to consider individual sales-agent registration, government-issued identity verification, public verification of brokerage affiliations, training requirements, and greater oversight of domestic and overseas brokerage agents. Would these requirements help combat freight fraud, broker impersonation, and unauthorized brokerage? Or would they create another expensive regulatory burden for legitimate freight businesses? **Today's Trucking and Transportation Industry News:** - **ATA Names New President and CEO:** The American Trucking Associations selects Mark Colson to succeed Chris Spear, signaling a leadership transition at one of trucking's most influential advocacy organizations. - **Human-Smuggling Network Exposed:** Federal investigators uncover an operation using refrigerated trucks, box trucks, and tractor-trailers to transport approximately 188 undocumented migrants.
