In this week's episode, Maham, Marit and Rohan debrief the 2026 F1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
First things first, let's discuss our race winner and for the first time as world champion, Lando Norris.
Becoming the fifth race winner in the last five rounds of the season and the fifth different race winner in 2026 overall so far, Norris put on a phenomenal performance and crossed the line almost 15 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
This is Norris's 12th career win, his first repeat win at a circuit where he's won before, and he's also the first driver to convert pole position into a win in Hungary since 2020.
With this result, Norris officially hasn't finished lower than second in Budapest since 2022.
With all of these stats and a few more that I'm sure I've forgotten, what did you make of his weekend? And would you agree with my assessment that this was his best performance of the season so far?
It was tough.
Only his best performance of the year so far.
I mean, anybody can see that.
And that's, of course, with help of the car.
they kind of got
lost in all the upgrade-ness of this weekend.
Obviously Aston Martin brought their huge round of upgrades, which kind of overshadowed anybody else.
And he managed the race very well throughout.
And yeah, a world champion drive, if you ask me.
Yeah, I 100% agree with that.
And it's obviously the third different team to win this season.
and honestly if you told me mclaren were going to be winning this season they have they've had good form so far but i didn't think they were race winning form but that's obviously that's changed and i think if they did continue on this part may this path maybe we could have a uh three team fight for the championship it's not too far gone yet but yeah a champion's drive 15 second margin to second place and that's nothing to scoff at at all so I mean, it sort of flashes what we saw in his title campaign last year, those dominant victories and then coming over the tough times, especially that DNF and producing these results is what we know he can do.
And it's good to see that Norwich can produce these in the new cars where McLaren haven't been the fastest team.
I think I really want to highlight that point that you made Marie about the upgrades because obviously if you look at the list of what was submitted to the FIA about who was bringing what this weekend I think the most extensive thing that McLaren brought was a new floor design which if memory serves me correctly is one of the things that they brought in Miami in 2024 which obviously kick-started a two-year title run effectively for them and then obviously it culminated in Lando Norris's maiden title last season so it floor designs are very important.
And this is a track, and I think Lando himself said this in one of his post-race interviews, this is a track that has actually suited McLaren quite a lot in the last couple of years.
