Ep 132: Dallas Fort Worth Layover

A layover at Dallas Fort Worth airport turns into a full-on brain dump about travel chaos, body temperature betrayal, and the tiny social negotiations that make flying feel like group therapy with strangers. We’re coming off a cold Portland morning and landing in Texas heat, which sparks a chain reaction of plane stories: the middle seat, the window shade standoff, and the constant math of “can I get up again without becoming the villain?” From there, the road stories open up. Portland shows lead to late nights with the club staff and a truly unbelievable combo: a strip club where karaoke is happening while people are stripping. It’s funny because it’s absurd, but it’s also a real snapshot of stand-up comedian life on tour, where you chase the moment, pay for it the next day, then still have to make the flight. Along the way we hit the unglamorous details too: packing like an adult, overpriced shoes, and the way airports make everyone look like someone you’ve seen before. Then it gets honest. I talk about anxiety, the pressure to always be aiming at the next thing, and the surprisingly emotional realization that sometimes you’ve already arrived. We get into gratitude, mindfulness, and why walking through a city or riding public transit can reset your head when touring starts to mess with sleep, eating, and confidence. There’s also the ongoing battle to quit vaping, because “reset week” sounds great until the cravings show up.
