Noise in a neighborhood piercing the night feels blasphemous, ugly and unwelcome.

But the sounds of screams cut off by a knife have a way of making themselves at home while keeping surrounding homes silent.

Outside noise, middle of the night noise, in a cold place like Michigan in March, seems to slice roughly through the air, echoing and wet, bouncing off the streetlights, splashing on the street itself like shadows that... pour into the ear.

Did I really hear that? The people awoken wait to make sure, not wanting to move lest they invite this trouble their way.

Then they hear it again.

A woman's scream.

And it's real.

It's real as soon as one of them dare to call into the night themselves, asking what's the matter? What the fuck is going on out there? In this case, it initially seems pretty obvious as it's Friday, March 17th of 2017.

St. Patrick's Day has turned to night and many revelers have blacked out with it.

A few hoots and hollers are to be expected.

But this...

A woman is screaming for

help.

You heard it there at the end, the scream for help.

The two struggling on the ground are couple Matthew Terry and Michelle Rogers.

Matt, blackout drunk, is trying to kill Michelle with a knife.

Neighbors are in shock.

At least that's what I assume, as nobody is coming outside to help.

At least one of them calls 911.

Help is on the way.

Michelle sounds like she needs it now, however.

While her head is being slammed on the concrete driveway, let's get to know the fellow who's on top of her doing this in his underwear.

Matthew Terry, born in Michigan in the Lansing area, was a former U.S. Marine.

He had an extensive background in wrestling and later worked as a wrestling coach.

He was working for a company called Liquid Web, a web hosting company in Lansing, Michigan, at the time of this incident.
