[mysterious music] It was the morning of February thirteenth, twenty seventeen, Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Into that terminal, crowded with people like any other day, a man appeared.
But no one in the airport knew that.
He was traveling under a fake name with a fake passport.
To passersby, he was just another face in the crowd.
At the time, Jong-nam was essentially based there.
His family was in Macau, and he regularly moved between Macau, Beijing, and Southeast Asia.
That day, Jong-nam walked briskly, straight toward the self-check-in kiosk on the third floor.
He stepped up to the machine and started to check in.
But there was something strange about him that day.
The bodyguards who normally shadowed his every move were nowhere to be seen.
There wasn't a single one.
The reason he was traveling alone remains a mystery to this day.
But there Jong-nam stood, without a single bodyguard, looking at the kiosk screen.
And that's when a woman in black began quietly approaching him from behind.
She circled around to his front and stood face to face with him.
She cupped his face with both hands.
Then she swiped her palms across his face.
There was a lotion-like liquid on her hands.
While Jong-nam stood there, confused, another woman appeared, this time in a white T-shirt with "LOL" printed in black.
She lunged at him from behind, pressing her body against his.
With one hand, she held him so he couldn't get away, and with the other, she covered his face.
