So did you know that sarin gas and VX gas are both real toxins? So they use both of them in The Rock.

And this movie actually does something extremely well that it doesn't give itself credit for.

So in the scene with the sarin gas, there is an antidote that they're instructed to take before the chemicals corrode through the gloves.

So sarin is a chemical called an organophosphate, which basically messes with the nervous system at the synapses in a certain way.

And atropine stops that happening.

Later in the movie, When Nicolas Cage is exposed to the VX gas, he has a needle that he uses in the very same way, a syringe that he uses in the same way as the atropine was used earlier in the movie.

And we're left to believe that must be the same thing.

Interestingly, this was again discovered by two chemists working in the civilian sector for ICI, who noticed that the organophosphate insecticide called amitin they had synthesized was far too toxic to humans.

Removed from ICI's lab, the insecticide discreetly made its way to Portland Down, where the famous VX agent was then subsequently developed.

The exorcist formula was an exchange with the Americans for thermonuclear bomb technology, highlighting just how much potential governments gave these agents at the time.

VX agent is particularly dangerous because it has low volatility and therefore has a high persistency and is thus considered an area denial weapon.

What is meant by this is once it has been deployed, the surrounding area is persistently contaminated.

It's not going to blow away one of the drawbacks of the earlier chemical weapons such as mustard gas.

And as a consequence of this, a large proportion of healthcare staff were then symptomatic themselves with nerve agent poisoning.

But at the same time, the deadliness of the agent is also one of its major drawbacks when taking into account the risks associated with its storage and handling.

And at the end of the book, I tell you what else was in that Casio organizer.

And it was sarin gas, VX agent formulas, all these chemical weapons formulas that any legitimate businessman should never have.

And Paracha had that in his organizer.

So it makes you really wonder.
