But it actually begins...

In John chapter 10, and I want to look at verse 31.

Now Jesus is in Jerusalem at this time.

It says, then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

Everyone say again.

Now if we read chapter 8, chapter 9, and chapter 10 here, Jesus is spending every day in Jerusalem.

And this isn't the first time during these last few days that they've tried to kill him.

In fact, if you just look back in chapter 8, they tried to kill him in chapter 8.

And he said, listen, you're of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do.

He was a murderer from the beginning.

And that's why they wanted to kill him.

They were being influenced by the devil from the lips of Jesus himself.

He said that.

So here they take up stones again.

to stone him.

Verse 32, Jesus answered them, many good works I have shown you from my father.

For which of those works do you stone me? The Jews answered him saying, for a good work we do not stone you, but for blasphemy.

And because you being a man, make yourself God.

Come to verse 39 if you would.

It says, therefore they sought again to seize him.

And we need to understand this is with murder on their minds.

But he escaped.

out of their hands.

So this just wasn't a casual exit.

Jesus escaped from their hands and went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was baptizing at first, and there he stayed.
