Rabbi Jerry discusses how the Shofar reminds us of the transformational power of the Lord in life and in death.
We're gonna continue on page 15 with 12 reasons why we blow the shofar.
First, we blow the shofar because sinning and worldly living prevent us from being close to God and serving Him the way we should.
And so when we blow the shofar, we are to remember to be spiritually alert and living for the Lord, and not living for ourselves and our sinful desires.
The shofar also heads the list of instruments used to worship God.
As it is written, "Praise Him with the blast of the shofar." And so when we hear the shofar, we are to remember that God seeks those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth, and that we are to be His worshipers.
When we hear the shofar, we are to remember to turn to God.
Give me your hearts.
Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning.
Don't tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.
Because of this act of faith, God promised to bless the Jewish people, give us victory over our enemies, and bless the nations of the world through us.
Abraham prophesied that God would provide a lamb for the burnt offering, and in that same area, 2,000 years later, Yeshua was sacrificed as God's lamb who takes away the sins of the world.
When we hear the shofar, we are to remember that the Word of God is divinely inspired and that we must pay attention to it.
A heavenly shofar accompanied the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai, and the prophets are like a shofar.
We are to pay attention to them.
When we hear the shofar, we are to remember that we are in a state of war.
"Near is the great day of the Lord, near and coming very quickly, a day of shofar and battle cry." We are in the middle of a cosmic battle for the souls of human beings.
