The Grit Behind the Gear - A Closer Look at the Informal Leaders of Warren PD

And so this question is for both of you.

Yeah.

How does being a police officer change you as a person And how does it impact your families, the sort of changes that happen to us as police officers? Well, go ahead,

Matt.

Oh,

okay.

No, honestly, I don't think it's a, I think it happens over time.

I don't think it happens right away.

When you're a newer officer, you don't really have families.

You don't you can't really relate to having kids.

You can't like at least for me, I couldn't really relate to like having, you know, like the kids stuff and like people that have all these problems with families that you go to these houses and you can't really relate.

So you're just kind of there and you're doing the job and you're like, yeah, you know, I'm a young cop, like whatever.

Right.

But then the more you do the job, the longer it happens.

There's more stresses every single time that You're at a call.

It could be something little.

It could be a little argument, but you're dealing with people all day long that need help but don't know how to even help themselves.

So each incident.

Right.

And you sprinkle in some critical incidents in there and you know, you all that stuff is just little trauma slices throughout the entire time.

So All that compiles.

You're lied to every day.

You're told, you know, you don't know who to trust.

You almost become cynical in nature.

And, you know, we see a side of the world that you're not meant to see.
