So here's two notable high-profile cases from Wisconsin involving white residents using weapons, threats, or harassment to intimidate black or minority neighbors.
So the William McDonald case.
William McDonald, a Milwaukee resident, engaged in a targeted campaign of racial terror to force Black women and their children out of his apartment complex.
In March 2021, McDonald targeted a Black neighbor by smashing her windshield, slashing her tires, and leaving a note filled with racial slurs that threatened to slit her throat if she didn't move.
A week later, he slashed her tires again.
In April 2022, when another black woman and her two children moved into the building, McDonald vandalized her front door with racial graffiti and left a note ordering her family to leave.
The Department of Justice stepped in, charging McDonald with federal hate crimes for violating his neighbor's housing rights.
In March 2023, McDonald pled guilty in federal court and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.
A viral confrontation occurred in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, following a minor dispute over a truck blocking a mailbox.
A black resident, Lowell Guerin, had asked his neighbors to move a truck.
Hours later, a white male neighbor drove up to Guerin's property, stepped out of his truck, brandishing a firearm, a holstered handgun pointed downward.
and approached Guerin while aggressively shouting racial slurs.
The interaction was caught on video and sparked massive social media outrage.
The Fond du Lac Police Department intervened, confirming that the white suspect was booked into the county jail on multiple serious criminal charges related to the armed intimidation and racial slurs.
The Amaya family lawsuit in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is another prominent example.
Since 2019, a Latino family faced extreme harassment from their white neighbors, Jim and Cindy Kutz.
The harassment escalated to death threats, bright floodlights aimed at their home, and Cindy Kutz being criminally charged for pointing a gun at the family during a property dispute.
Oh, that reminds me of that movie, Lakeview Terrace, with Samuel L. Jackson, where his neighbors moved in and the husband was white and the wife was black and he didn't like that.
Crazy.
Just let people live.
They're not bothering you, are they? Just by existing, they're bothering you?
So weird.
