But really, let's kind of dive into the nurse news for this week.

So a judge has ruled that a hospital must face a wrongful death suit over nurse killed in a parking lot.

So this is a developing story.

I believe I have actually touched on this in one of my previous nurse news because I think this happened on May 12, 2026.

And this update is to let you know that on July 13th, a judge has denied the hospital's motion to dismiss itself from the case, rejecting the hospital's argument that workers' compensation was the family's only legal remedy.

The civil case now moves forward against all three defendants.

So what happened was there was a nurse in Tuscaloosa.

If you don't remember, let me refresh your memory if you've never heard the story.

Let me enlighten you.

A nurse, it's a very sad story.

A nurse, Ada Doss, it's a 27-year-old nurse and case manager at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in the hospital's south parking lot on May 12, 2026.

As she walked to her car at shift change, a suspect, Matthew James Taylor... has been indicted on capital murder.

So basically, Doss's husband filed a wrongful death lawsuit against DCH, its contracted security firm, and Taylor, the alleged murderer.

Alleging security failures allowed an armed man in a mental health crisis to roam the campus for hours before the shooting.

And so, again, the update on this is that a judge has denied the hospital's motion to dismiss itself from the case.

So they are still part of the case.

And now the civil case will move forward against all three defendants, being the hospital, the security firm, and the alleged murderer, Mr. Matthew James Taylor.

So that's just an update there.

So sad for this family.

Healthcare violence is, I don't even know, off the charts, out of this world, especially for nurses.

That one, that's sad.

It's always hard when we hear anything really negative in our community, but especially when it comes to the cost of somebody's life, it's really, really difficult to digest and take that in.
