Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993

I spent the last five years of my 20s paying off my credit card debt, and while I still carry some debt, it's low but not completely paid off monthly.

To add to this, I'm currently on a leave from work, Family Medical Leave Act, for a daily medical health condition that has been impacting me for over 15 years, but has been coming on more strongly over the last three.

My boyfriend has been incredibly supportive and has said things like, 'If you need to take some additional time off of work past the eight weeks that you currently have, I'll support you.' He does not think going back to my old company that I was at for about 18 months as well is a good idea due to a very toxic corporate work culture.

I still don't feel mentally, emotionally, or physically ready to go back to work yet, which my boyfriend supports, but how do I talk to him about what financial impact this will have if I don't? I do have some student loans and credit card debt to pay off, mainly from my medical condition and doctor's appointments.

Like, hey, hubby, I looked into some things.

Are you aware, like, if you ever did want to stop drinking? you know, workplace offers FMLA, short-term disability payments.

So you can get, you know, some of your, at least a percentage of your salary and we could cover if you need to go away.

Like I've looked into this stuff.

But be sure to get knowledge and research what's available nowadays, because especially since COVID, like the benefits out there that human resources is covering as I mean, all the people that ended up staying home, working remotely, all that stuff happened, you know, like.

People stopped going to their jobs.

There was a big cultural shift where like, because we see it all the time, a lot of our clients are getting FMLA, which stands for Family Medical Leave of Absence.

And I like, again, using real examples, Like I actually brought this up a couple months ago to a wife who wants her husband to get into treatment.

it's such a contradiction to me because he is also i was told the face of you know stopping the fraud waste and abuse within the welfare programs just uh i i don't love this and no i am going to play it i convinced myself i'm going to play this is michael knowles this was um first of all here he yeah i must have missed the chapter in dos capital in which marx calls for reforming existing welfare programs to incentivize homemakers well michael knowles this is what you said about a bill in 2019 i'll speed it up just a hair But in 2019, I think it was Jody Ernst or Joni Ernst, however you say it, she came forth with a bill that would pay for, what was it called? FMLA, paid family leave or whatever, where the mother after having a baby gets to stay home.

I think the bill only said like one to two months.

And this was his commentary on that bill, just like being paid to stay home for a couple months after you have the baby and then you go back to work.
