No matter where you’re watching from or what this week has held, we’re glad you’re here. At Cloverhill Church, we believe God meets us right where we are and lovingly calls us forward. Our hope is…
Let's break it down.
"Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I don't want you to be uninformed." He, He doesn't say, "I don't want you to be involved." He says, "I don't want you to be misled.
I don't want you to be ignorant.
I don't want you to be afraid.
I don't want you to abuse spiritual gifts.
I want you to understand them and use them biblically." And, and when it comes to, when it comes to spiritual gifts, you're, you, you usually fall in three camps.
Let me try to give them to you as quick as I can.
Because again, different backgrounds, different ideas, different thoughts.
Here's, here's the first one.
It's doctrinal sensationalist.
And, and this just means that the word cessation means that they cease.
So, so the, this group of people believe that the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit, prophecy, wisdom, tongues, interpretation of tongues, that they went away with the New Testament church.
That God gave them for a specific season to jumpstart the church, and now they're no longer needed.
And they really take that argument from one verse, and it's 1 Corinthians 13, "Where there are prophecies, they will cease, and where are there tongues, they will be still.
Where there's knowledge, it will pass away." So the question is not will the gifts cease.
Paul tells us they're gonna cease.
The question is when will they cease? And this is what, this is what th- this group teaches.
"For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears." Th- they, they consider the Word of God completeless, completeness.
So when the Word of God, when the canon of scriptures, when it's final, said and done, that that was the completeness and now we don't need the gifts anymore.
But if you stop there, you might get that.
But if you continue on in the same chapter, it says, "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror.
Then we shall see face to face.
Now I know in part, then I shall full- now, then I shall know fully." So, so the question is not will they cease.
