Well, in the news this week, the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt announced to their students that they would be removing music stands from the practice rooms.
[laughs] What?
I thought this, I thought this was satire at first.
I thought-
I thought...
Literally, I was like, [laughs] was like, "Are y'all for real right now?" Uh, apparently the, the students in the School of Music will need to provide their own portable music stands, um, for the 2026-27 school year.
They'll continue to have access to music stands, um, in concert halls and ensemble rehearsals and some large classrooms.
Their senior associate dean for undergraduate education, uh, said in a note to them, quote, "It is our hope that asking students to obtain one will alleviate many of the issues we've been facing in recent years.
For example, students running around the hallway/classroom searching for stands, stands that magically travel around the building, and stands that actually disappear from the building." So, um, apparently all the students got this message via email, and of course people are all like, "This literally an essential part of a music classroom and a practice room." And I just feel like trying to, trying to stand to the wall if it's really that deep or just cement blocks.
I'm about to say, is it CIM that has cement blocks?
They have cement blocks.
Literally, Jen commented and was like, "When I was at C- CIM, like, so many people had stands in their apartments.
They added the cement blocks.
It alleviated that issue." This is s- this is unreasonable.
It's unreasonable, and also, like, you think you're the only m- school of music, like...
Okay, I'm not trying to be s- you losing stands is, like, par for the course, because I got a couple of stands from [laughs] Porter and Rob.
[laughs]
I...
But not from, um, not from Eastman.
Mm-hmm.
So guess which one is... has remaining.
I forgot why I don't have any from Eastman.
I never had a reason to...
I never had a reason to take...
