Mike Hoekstra joined us this morning to cheer on The Netherlands in the World Cup

Mike, you talked about your parents and a rich heritage there, but let's face it, most of us ignore our parents' heritage and we move on.

What keeps you going? What about the Dutch culture, about the Netherlands that keeps you going?

I'm not really sure.

I haven't really thought about that.

We ask the hard-hitting questions here.

You do.

I like that.

My parents were proud Dutchies, but they are proud to be here.

Dutch people are very different.

When they come to someplace else, they assimilate.

In Toronto or big cities, you don't see a Dutch town.

There's an Italian town, German town.

Not Dutch.

We're Canadians.

They want to be Canadians, and they're proud of it.

but they're also proud of their heritage.

And my parents passed that on.

So I always kind of keep that up.

Have you got a chance to go home?

We were there for a day.

One day, the cruise I was on stopped in Amsterdam.

We spent a day.

We actually met up with some of my mom's cousins.

They took the train into Amsterdam.

We spent the day with them.

It was awesome.

Wish I had taken mom back to Holland.

Mom was a real Dutchie.

She was a little older when she came.

She still has cousins there.

They met us in Amsterdam.

So we're going to spend some time there.

It's coming.

Mr.

Travel Agent is going to try and get a trip there and spend a week in Amsterdam.

He's going to have to do one of those river cruises.

Yes.

It starts in Amsterdam.

Go a couple weeks or a week early and check it out.

Try out the Dutch food.
