In this episode, Becky Squire and Tess Frame continue their study of Isaiah, focusing on chapters 40–49 and the Come, Follow Me theme, “Comfort Ye My People.” These chapters speak directly to fear, weakness, suffering, loneliness, refinement, and salvation, while repeatedly returning to the comfort and strength found in Jesus Christ. Isaiah reminds us that God gathers His people, carries them like a shepherd, renews the strength of those who wait upon Him, and stays with us through the waters and fires of mortality.
The conversation highlights several deeply personal promises from Isaiah: “Fear thou not, for I am with thee,” “I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine,” and “I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands.” Becky shares how that final verse became especially meaningful to her after experiencing a miscarriage, reminding her that Christ’s wounds testify of what He has done not only for everyone, but for each individual person. Tess and Becky also discuss idolatry, the peace found in obeying God’s commandments, and the image of the “furnace of affliction” as part of God’s refining work in our lives.
Throughout these chapters, the message is consistent: God’s people may experience difficult seasons, but they are never abandoned in them. Trials can refine, purify, and shape us, while Christ continues to hold us through the process. Isaiah’s words offer comfort for anyone who feels forgotten, overwhelmed, or weary, with the assurance that the Lord knows us personally, calls us by name, and will never forsake us.
