Morning Service 4th October 2026 - Pastor Jim Turrent

Yahweh uses the furniture of the sanctuary that he will build to teach his people of his nature and of his plan.

Inside, of course, there are the tablets of the law, the jar of manna to remind the people of God's provision, and Aaron's staff that budded to remind the people of the authority of God.

In the holy place, on a golden table as we move out from the most holy place, there are the loaves of bread, 12 in all, in two rows with incense rising.

The 12 is significant because it's indicative of the totality of the people of God in the presence of God.

It's the perfect presence of God being communicated to his people, giving perpetual light.

So in intricate symbolism, Yahweh is showing his people who he is and what he will be for them in the future, including today, including today.

But they're also time-bound in the sense that they will be superseded and fulfilled in the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to whom they point.

This cannot be imagination, it's gotta be revelation that follows the story through history.

And the effect of these things is that we learn as we track through the detail, help us put together in our minds the big story of the Bible and bring us confidence that God has it.

that the Christ we find in type and shadow here did in fact become flesh and did fulfill what the furniture of the sanctuary pointed to so that we can be confident Christians, that the final fulfillment of all things will be brought to pass by the same God who did what he did here.

And I pray that we will be moved like the men of Israel as we see Christ in this part of the story and give ourselves, as they did in their day, to see the purposes of God fulfilled.

Because it's the same story that we are part of today, that big story of God, that grand metanarrative that centers on the person of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Well, so far the Lord said to Moses, speak to the people of Israel that they may make for me a contribution.

From every man whose heart moves him, you shall receive the contribution from me.

Isn't it amazing that, you know, God doesn't just say, you know, here's a tax and you've got to give it.
