This week’s episode begins with Uzbekistan’s historic World Cup appearance, the first by any Central Asian country. The opening match against Colombia did not deliver the result Uzbek fans wanted, but…
I don't follow the match, but I read some headlines here and there in the media.
And of course, some of my friends, they publish quite a lot, so I'm, I'm quite into how successful Uzbekistan was this time.
But unfortunately, their campaign didn't, has not started with the success they would have liked.
I think the very fact that Uzbekistan is there is already a success, and, uh, many people, not only in Uzbekistan, but in Central Asia, share it.
It reminds me a story how, uh, Kazakhstan was playing against Real Madrid, and, uh, of course they, like, completely lost, but people still felt happy that our team was, uh, you know, competing against such a, a qualified opponent, and it was already considered a success.
Well, when you think of the Kazakh football, then usually it is Kayrat that equals to the entire country.
Look, I mean, w- whenever, uh, uh, these, um, whenever a new team qualifies for the World Cup, there are all sorts of records that are, are made.
And, and so although Uzbekistan lost 3-1, there was at least a record broken, which is that Uzbekistan scored its first ever World Cup goal.
Sometimes countries qualify for the World Cup, and they don't manage to score even a single goal.
Really quite a good goal from Abbosbek Fayzullayev, who's emerged as a bit of a, a pin-up heartthrob.
In fact, uh, I, I saw some comments on Twitter of people admiring his appearance as well, so he, he may have a Future even beyond football after this.
