Yeah, I think that in the world that we live in, that's just so filled with noise and processed information, we need, there's something deep inside of us that needs to slow down.
And there is a hidden rule that in three years, it's gonna be 1500 years old.
And if we take little by little this these lessons from saint benedict then we see the world upside down um i had no say in the cover of the book so i've had a lot of time to think about what it means to me and so uh anyway that's just an interesting idea because it's big ben upside down big
ben upside down And I actually thought, was it a play on Benedict? I wasn't sure, you know, but anyway.
And I think it seems that something that's real fundamental is, to our world, regardless of whether you're in a monastery or you're living in a busy life and commuting every day and you got kids at home or whatever it is.
I think we toss around now that we have, particularly in the realm of social media, we toss around the word community a lot.
Like you're in my this community or that community, or hey, I'm going online to have community or to find community.
You make some great points in the book about how we can view even our modern notions of community through Benedict's real authentic Christian community.
You know, in the world, I hear a lot of, let's go on to this drop-in event after school or a Friday night, drop in if you're available and let's build community.
But I think if we flip that upside down, if you will, Benedict offers something very different.
He says, it's not about just showing up for people when it's convenient, but it's showing up consistently, finding that rhythm where I'm showing up for you out of love to serve you.
Benedict talks a lot about how the elder must listen to the younger because God speaks to the young.
Benedict talks about caring for the sick So all these sacrifices that we create in a spiritual community, we take the values of monastic life, transpose it to our everyday life.
We can see the world upside down and see that there's great value in showing up constantly for the other.
