Bullets Nation NBL27 Episode 31

Yeah, so obviously Will's probably the biggest appointment that we've had this off-season, right at the start of the season.

The offseason, it was something that we needed to get done first up.

So he's not simply just a coach who has spent, you know, his career in the NBL.

His background covers college basketball, NBA, G League, NBL, European basketball and international basketball.

So he's been appointed as not just our head coach, but also our president of basketball operations, which gives him considerable influence over the entire basketball program.

So just looking at his coaching career, you know, he spent time at the Texas Longhorns as an assistant in graduate roles, Sam Houston State as an assistant coach, the 76ers, Philly 76ers, video coordinator, basketball operations, special assistant, Brooklyn Nets, Long Island Nets, where he was head coach, Quite a bit of an achievement there while he was there.

Sydney Kings head coach.

We know what he did while he was here with them.

Houston Rockets.

He was assistant coach.

Paris basketball.

Brooklyn Nets again as an assistant coach this time.

Charlotte Hornets, which is where he was before taking the role.

And he was in coaching and advisory roles there.

And now he's here with us.

He also spent several years with the Australian Boomers, including the 2014 FIBA World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympics.

His biggest achievement was that the season he spent with the Long Island Nets.

It's particularly impressive.

He led them to a 33-17 regular season, which is the best record in the G League.

He took them to the Championship Series and was named the G League Coach of the Year.

He then came to Australia and he had immediate success with the Sydney Kings.

He went 20-8 for that season and and then took them to the grand final series, which we all know that ended in a little bit of controversy with that one.

What does Weaver bring to Brisbane? It's probably more important than any individual tactical system.

He's repeatedly been involved in organisations where he's had to build systems, develop players, rather than simply inherit established championship teams.

His comments since arriving at Brisbane suggest he's looking at this as a long-term program rebuild rather than expecting to fix everything in one season, which I think is very important for people to remember coming into this season.
