Today, we celebrate Saint Paul Jones on the 85th memorial of his death in 1941.
Reverend Jones was from the East, and he probably hadn't planned on Utah at all.

He was raised in Pennsylvania, graduated from Yale, and then studied at the Episcopal Seminary in Cambridge.
He was groomed for a comfortable Eastern parish, which his father, who was a priest and rector, had already lined up for him once he graduated from seminary.
He made an appeal to the men at that seminary to come and work with the people in Utah.
And much to Paul Jones' father's chagrin, young Jones answered that call and came West.
He came to Logan in 1906 and was rector of St. John's Church there for eight years.
He turned his rectory into a vibrant student hangout for the students of the agricultural college, which we now know as Utah State University, and also the small Brigham Young, uh, branch that was in Logan.
In his house, he built a reading room and a library, which some, but not all, claim was the first library in Cache Valley.

Reverend Jones provided baths with clean water for students and the local farmers, because remember, at that time, there was no running water.
