Our film this week is the brand new and perhaps unnecessary addition to the Camp Rock franchise, Camp Rock 3.
Before we get to that, Scott, what have you been up to this week?
I have seen a couple things that are in the musical adjacent space that I want to talk about.
the first of which is a new film called the rivals of Amzaya King, which had some like festival buzz last year.
And then it was held this year and it's got Matthew McConaughey and it's a sort of bluegrass musical thing.
And you're sort of like, okay, I'm intrigued.
So I, I went the other day and I, it opens with a really exciting sequence of like these guys, they're at this sort of like drive in fast food place.
It takes place in Oklahoma and they all like come with their banjos and their mandolin.
And then they do this whole musical number and the editing is like really cool and aggressive and stylized.
And it's doing like a lot of like this cool, cool kind of stuff.
And I was like, Oh, okay.
I'm, I'm in on this.
Yeah.
And then it just takes so many bizarre turns.
I'm going to try not to spoil anything just in case people do want to see it.
It is out in theaters right now.
Some theaters.
There's something that happens 10 minutes in that's like extraordinarily violent and unexpected.
You're sort of like, whoa, where did that come from?
And yeah, The tone is just sort of like that.
It just has all these different things going on.
And the music, outside of honestly that first song and a couple other moments where other musicians are playing, feels weirdly out of place.
Because it's certainly not a musical, right? There are just a couple scenes where all the characters are hanging out playing songs.
But the style is very like...
You know, like the Lumineers, Ho Hey? Yeah, Stomp and Holler.
