Justine Landis-HanleyGuestThe US will live stream a prisoner's execution for the first time in history.

It actually took me a few hours to sit with this one because I saw it and I think it was so desensitized at the moment that I was like, oh, that's really bad.
It is every week we come in and we say, how dystopian, like what world are we living in? And then the next week we come back and we have to repeat the same sentiment for a new worse issue.
So then you just feel like you're repeating the same kind of heightened concern.
And it almost feels like I'm saying thoughts and prayers concerns because you just can't go any further with how angry you are.
Well, should we get into it? So this, we know that this is happening because last week, the US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the execution of a former US Army major will be public, live streamed, and the date set for it is December 3rd.
Now, one of the most, I think, concerning aspects of this story is the nature of the execution, which will be by firing squad.
Now, I think we've heard of the firing squad, but a lot of people might not know exactly what that entails or what it means.
So a firing squad execution is where a group of designated shooters fire simultaneously at the person so none of the shooters know which one of them was responsible for the death.
Now, the question I think on everyone's minds naturally would be like, why, right? Let's just give some broader context to this story of who this former US Army major is and what has sort of led to this decision and moment.
He's a former army psychiatrist, and in 2009, he opened fire on a medical processing center on the Texas Army base, which killed 13 people and wounded many more, dozens more.
This was the deadliest ever attack on an American military base outside of combat.
It's also important, I think, to note here to add some additional information that Hassan had been radicalized to extremist Islam and that he'd carried out the attack to stop American soldiers being deployed to Afghanistan to kill Muslims and the Taliban.
