So a barefoot shoe, this is a barefoot shoe, is a shoe that is as close to not being a shoe as possible.

So the kind of big defining features are it's flat, so there's no raised heel.

And then probably the most important feature is it's got this wide toe box so your toes can splay out properly.

And we tried more and more cushioning, support, orthotics, and they seem to provide a kind of temporary relief.

But the idea with barefoot shoes is that the human foot is not inherently broken.

And that if you actually strengthen the foot and you use it as nature intended, it's perfectly functional.
Did you think that you were going to have this quite straight kind of career trajectory and like quite straight? Or was there, when you were an engineer, was there always something in the back of your mind where you were like, no, this isn't quite what I want to do?
