**David Hayward is a cartoonist, artist, author and chronicler of Christian deconstruction from conservative evangelicalism and the right-leaning politics in which evangelicals are so often raised.**…
David HaywardGuestJontyHostLauraHostMalkyHostThis episode features David Hayward, a.k.a. Naked Pastor, who is a cartoonist and an author and I think a social commentator in the tradition, in the great tradition of satirical cartoonists.
And he's just an all-around very, very nice chap.
What do you guys like about the interview? You've listened.
You've partaken.
One of you has transcribed it for Shibboleth magazine.
What are the highlights?
i it feels like really cliche to say but i really loved what he had to say about um you asked him a question uh of how do we deal with the people in power and i thought his answer to that was very very lovely about how we do it through small acts of love and it's one of those things that is quite hard to to deal with sometimes because it's it's really hard to see those small acts being worth it or of any use.
But I think the way he describes it is really, really nice and really optimistic and heartwarming.
So he is a lovely character.
Yeah, it was good to hear from a creative, from a maker, someone who's doing stuff.
And I guess part of his process or creative process or certainly his motivations and his journey was really cool and inspiring.
And it was also funny because his name's funny.
If you're not familiar, if you know Naked Bastard, you know, it's a brand name.
Because I was telling my friend who we've got coming up on the podcast, Naked Pastor.
Now, my friend is a vicar, and he's sounding progressive in that, but he's not at the mad, woke, lefty place I am.
Yeah.
And so when I said, oh, we've got this guy called Naked Pastor, and he just rolled his eyes, well, fuck it, what now? There's some sort of nudist, vaguely spiritual, semi-Christian nonsense as this.
Oh, right.
Yeah.
And that's coming up in the next issue of...
That's the centerfold of the next issue of Shibboleth magazine.
