Rakhi PatelHostUm, so today I wanna talk to you about something that, you know, we- I've encountered a lot over these past couple of months.
Um, you know, over the weekend I had some family over, and it was really nice catching up after a long time, but the one consistent thing that was coming up with all of my family members was, "Why is it so hard for us to get together?" [laughs] Um, so glad that we're doing this.
Um, you know, finally we s- we were able to, like, find a common time.
And even the same thing happened a couple of weeks ago.
Um, unfortunately, I had a friend whose mother had passed away, and many of us hadn't seen each other, I would say, like, probably for a year or two.
And, you know, it's unfortunate that we meet under those circumstances, but the same topic popped up, right? That man, we need to be better about...
not about keeping in touch, because we keep in touch.
But we need to be better about actually getting together and actually connecting.
Um, and so, you know, this idea of we have so many relationships with so many different people, family, friends, um, and then obviously even within our own household, but how do we stay connected with one another? What, what's going on that we just can't manage to actually have face-to-face interaction? That's definitely something that we need to kind of explore and talk about, because I'm sure I'm not the only one that's facing it, right?
Is that something that you've kind of noticed lately, too?

Yeah, I just think, you know, in today's world, we have so many things at our disposal where we can connect with people, right?
Mm-hmm.

So I think I've connected with 20, 30 people, and I could probably tell you a lot of vacations friends have been on thanks to social media.

I could probably tell you what a friend ate for breakfast because she, you know, mentioned it in a text conversation.

It's almost like at this superficial level, and we stay at that superficial level.
So almost the question becomes that what is the foundation? What are all of our relationships truly grounded in, right? Because it's only going to remain surface level until we actually stop to think about, you know, why is this friend important to me?
Why am I investing time in this particular relationship, this friendship, or building a closer bond with, like, your brother or your sister? Um, and you know, until we do that, nowadays with the loneliness pandemic of so many people who feel alone and isolated, until we do that, we're not gonna be able to fix that for ourselves or even anyone else within, like, our circle-
