S2/EP9: KENNIE MASON (SIICHAQ)

You know, your music kind of reminds me of a lot of stuff I've been hearing recently that people on the internet at least are calling zoomer gays.

gen z people getting into shoegaze but they're not doing your classic creation records style shoegaze they're actually writing more kind of like what you do like confessional singer songwriter music with like your og shoegaze the lyrics are totally besides the point and they're not meant to be heard at all

right

exactly do you like classic shoegaze was that a big influence for you

okay I'm gonna be so honest I do not know about genres I don't know what qualifies things as a certain genre or not I don't know how to categorize things like what

you know I think of shoegazers it was like an outgrowth of the 80s punk world but it was people that were getting back into 60s psychedelia but it's like let's make psychedelic music but that's our version of it let's we don't need to wear the tie-dye and play like Jimi Hendrix but it's it's music that's you know meant to be daydreaming headphone music And a lot of overtones from the distorted guitars.

Although not all bands play with fuzz, but most of them do.

But it came out of drug culture.

My Bloody Valentine got all their ideas from trying MDMA, which was new at the time.

Holy shit, I actually didn't know that.

I guess that makes sense.

I love music like that.

I feel like it's obvious.

There's so much noise on everything that I do.

It just wasn't an overt, direct guiding force necessarily.

Are there bands like out right now that you feel like kinship towards? Like these are the band.

These are our band.

This is who we want to tour with and et cetera.

Well, I have, this is so fun.

I keep, I literally can't stop talking about them.

Yeah.

I don't know them.

There's a band called open head.

Oh my God.

I'm really good friends with them.
