Shumita BasuHostAlaska's Republican Governor Mike Dunleavy has ordered an investigation into Democratic Senate hopeful Mary Peltola's campaign.
Dunleavy made the order after a New York Times report alleged that her campaign recruited a candidate with the same name as the Republican incumbent.
Senator Dan S. Sullivan and the independent Dan J. Sullivan are both on the ballot, and Republicans have for months claimed Dan J. was a deliberate plant there to confuse voters.
Now, Peltola's former campaign operatives have told The Times the allegations are true and that they were involved in persuading Dan Jay to run.
The seat up for grabs is one of a handful that could decide who controls the Senate.
Incumbent Republican Senator Dan S. Sullivan told Fox News that his opponent should come clean.
She's been lying for over a year.
She's run a campaign about supposed corruption.
She's the corrupt one working with D.C. insiders to trick Alaskans.
Paltola's campaign issued a statement denying that Alaskans for Mary had any involvement in the recruitment of the independent candidate Dan J. Sullivan.
And her campaign only formally registered with the Federal Election Commission in January after many of the events reported by The Times.
Meanwhile, Dan Jay denies being put up by the party and says he chose to run for personal reasons.
It's another diversion.
Every day, it's some new, you know, look over here moment.
And yesterday, the Justice Department issued subpoenas as part of a criminal investigation.
The potential targets of the DOJ's investigation are unclear, but President Trump earlier this week called for the criminal prosecution of Peltola and her campaign, though there's no clear evidence she broke the law.
They said they didn't do it, and we caught them cold.

She told us that Republicans failed in an attempt back in June to kick Dan J. Sullivan off the ballot.

said you have a interest in differentiating between these two men on the ballot, but your remedy cannot be to deny this man his right to run for office if he wants
