Untitled Linux Show 275: A Write Makes 2 Wrongs

Well, Rob, Rob has a story not about Linux everywhere, but about AI office suites everywhere.

What's going on? What's the new meta in Office Suites? It feels like

every time I open up a Linux news story lately, somebody has built another Office Suite.

So we've had open source Office software for decades.

OpenOffice, which pretty much every place by LibreOffice and all those others have given us powerful alternatives to Microsoft Office.

But for many people coming from Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, there's always been an adjustment.

It has features, but just doesn't quite feel the same.

It looks different.

I don't like how it looks.

I just want it to look more like what I'm used to.

So having the features familiarity are two different things.

And when you spend your workday in the office, the familiarity matters.

Now, we have several projects approaching that problem at once with AI playing different roles.

So I recently did a show tip about the Starling desktop.

The Linux desktop environment developed largely using cloud code.

Well, apparently their building a desktop wasn't enough.

Now there's Starling Office.

The name sounds very similar to the old Star Office, but no relation, completely separate.

It also includes a word processor, not also, but it includes a word processor, spreadsheet application, and presentation editor with Microsoft Office.

There's support for Microsoft's DocX, XLSX, and PPTX formats.

And you don't have to switch to the starting desktop to use it.

There are builds for Linux, Windows, and macOS.

But you should switch to Linux desktop at least.

Don't worry about those other two.

The initial release is version 0.1, so this is still very early software.
