A Walk Through Revelation

Well, I want to welcome you to our Wednesday night survey of the New Testament.

We're finishing this tonight by taking a run through the content, a walk through the Book of Revelation.

Let me tell you a little bit about what the early Christians said about this book and its author.

Justin Martyr in AD 150, you've gotta understand that John lived to almost 100 AD, so this is just 50 years after his death, was certain that it was John the Apostle, that he'd been sent to the Isle of Patmos by one of the most wicked Roman emperors, Domitian.

Uh, Domitian demanded that once a year everybody in the Roman Empire worship him as God.

If you did not do that, you'd either be put in prison or put to death.

Uh, Patmos was a mining colony.

Um, a lot of the early Christians talked about the fact he spent some time there and then was released and could go back to the seven churches that he supervised in, in Asia Minor.

Uh, I can understand that because if you send a man who's 90 years old to a mining colony, you're gonna find soon that he's not gonna do you any good.

So, uh, that may have happened, but we're not certain.

So I'm gonna begin, and I'm gonna read to you Revelation 1:1 from the CSB, which our church uses, then I'm gonna read it to you from the King James and start with some thoughts from this first verse.
