This is episode number 280, and as is our weekly custom, we'll dedicate the show to a baller from 1980 or a player who worn jersey number 80.

And while the Lakers were the 1980 champs, and since no Laker has ever worn jersey number 80, we'll dedicate the show to that crew, which would evolve into the Showtime Lakers of the 1980s, with five NBA championships and three other finals appearances in the decade.

They won that first ship and were later joined by James, Byron, Kurt, and many others.

Many feel that that Lakers dynasty of the '80s was the equal of Bill Russell's Celtics dynasty.

They don't have the titles that, uh, the Celtics of that era did, but when you look at the competition they had to go up against, some of the players compared to the Russell, I'm not talking about athletic ability or whatever, but you look at the competition overall, um, you could certainly make that argument.

Yeah, I mean, when you make the finals eight times in a 10-year span [laughs] and win five, uh, you know, it really doesn't get a whole lot better than that.
