I said I want you to become the new Sammy Speed.
W- what? That's crazy.
Is it? We are the same person after all.
I saw the footage of you outmaneuvering those F-55s in that escape pod.
I know you can fly, and you've got balls, that's for sure.
But I don't know the first thing about the Zephyrus mission.
We both grew up studying everything we could get our hands on having anything to do with space, right?
Yeah, but this particular mission, all the ins and outs, I wouldn't know where to begin.
You don't need to.
We got a fully trained crew, knows the mission inside and out.
Besides, with the newest autonomous flight software, the ship practically flies itself.
But why? I assume you have a backup crew for situations like this.
Of course we do, but having Bill Jenkins replace Sammy Reed as the face of the most important space mission in history ain't gonna happen on my watch.
Who's Bill Jenkins?
Exactly.
You think there would've been sweeping civil rights reform without Martin Luther King? You think the Allies would've been victorious without Churchill?
Well-
Organizations, movements, missions, they can't succeed without the right leaders.
But I'm not you, Sammy.
I'm a nobody.
You don't get it, Sam.
Sammy Speed isn't just me anymore, a single person.
He's bigger than that.
He's a concept, an illusion, something that the people can hold up as an ideal, someone to rally behind.
I've worked my ass off my entire life for this moment.
