John Nunemaker runs Fireside, Flipper and Box Out. He used to think of himself as a craftsman, until last…
John NunemakerGuestMatt SwansonHostMaybe like you just kick it off, like where are you kind of currently at in your thoughts on like the software factory, like how product is getting made, how code is getting written? Like what is a snapshot in your world in, you know, August here of 2026? Like you've got multiple products.

And then a couple more like less main, you know, help here and there, friends and stuff.

But yeah, I mean, I feel like where I'm at right now is like, and if we're talking software factory and building software, I mean, I think, you know, you and I probably are similar on this.

Like I thought of myself as a craftsman, you know, I'm like, I'm building bespoke, you know, furniture.

Like, you know, I like samurais, you know, like you could think of all these like professions where it was like honor and craftsmanship and all that kind of stuff.

And then December 14th, I turned on, you know, a 20x cloud plan just to try Opus.

So like where I'm at soft like software wise and software factory wise is most of the I read a lot of the code and I try to like, you know, taste, add taste, simplify, you know, make it more resilient, make it more performant, like all the things that sometimes don't happen like right out of the box.

Does it look right? Does it not? Can I shrink my browser? Is it responsive? Stuff like that.
