Welcome, Wyoming football is at the midway point of its season and Cowboys basketball kicked off its campaign with an exhibition against Northern Colorado in Gillette. What better time to start a…
Obviously, it was a very ugly, ugly game from, uh, from both sides, um, from an offensive standpoint.
But, you know, Wyoming gets that late touchdown in the fourth quarter, um, gets a stop at the end of the fourth quarter to force an overtime, and then San Jose State, for, uh, some odd reason, tries to throw a pass on fourth and one on the, the opening drive of overtime, throws an incompletion.
And, uh, Wyoming comes out and goes down to, I think, San Jose State's two-yard line, one-yard line, and, uh, kicks a field goal and, uh, walks it off, wins the game.
They improve to three and three overall and two and one in the Mountain West, uh, on the year.
I, I saw some controversy on some, uh, social media platforms the other day about, you know, them kicking, kicking the field goal and, you know, I saw there was one comment about, you know, showing weakness, and it's a coaching mentality.
You know, I asked Jay about that on, on Monday, and he, he, he said the same thing I said, you know? It was from what you've seen the entire game of, you know, at the goal line, they, they weren't getting that push all game.
And he-- you know, there was-- if you go back and watch the s- was it the second down or the first down play with, uh, Samuel Harris carries it right up the middle, um, gets tackled at the one.
You know, it was-- he almost fumbled that ball, and, you know, Jay, Jay [chuckles] saw that, um, you know, in real time and said, "Yeah, I'm not risking this again.
You know, let's just go kick an extra point." And I explained this on, on Twitter the other day, but, you know, it's you, you down the ball on, uh, second down, and that way you have an opportunity to, if you have a bad snap on third down, you tell the holder to fall on it, and you have another chance.
Obviously, if he kicks-- if he has a field goal attempt and misses, then yeah, it's going to a second overtime.
But I think you like your chances of kicking an extra point, especially at that, that distance where, you know, you're not kicking a line drive right into the line of scrimmage.
And, and Jay said that, um, you know, Eric Sandvick has pretty good, uh, the ability to, you know, get pretty good height on his kicks, which he did.
Walks off San Jose, which, man, it's been a weird, weird year in the Mountain West when you look at, you know, teams like San Jose State, Hawaii especially.
So, you know, if I would've told you, you know, three weeks ago that Wyoming would be two and one in the Mountain West at this point in the season, I mean, I think you would probably take that.
I'm not saying that they've [chuckles] met or exceeded expectations by any means.
But, you know, at, from how the season started to where they are now, I think that was a really big win.
And now they obviously return home for two home games and then a bye week, which, um, uh, this is a huge swing.
I included that game in this swing, but this is a huge portion of Wyoming's season in regards to, you know, where they wanna end up and, um...
