With the Olympics on the horizon, two-time Olympic Champion and three-time Olympic medalist Mikaela Shiffrin reflects on the journey that brought her to this moment in a special solo episode of…
It kind of gives you the shivers right now, like thinking about Where I was last season at this point, trying to return to World Cup racing, right at this period of time, I was trying to get prepared for World Championships and trying to be in a race mentality in Giant Solemn and not succeeding at that.
And in Solemn, it was getting better, but going into the big event being... you know, on a comeback journey, a return from injury journey versus a, you know, we're going to like take this full throttle.
And the rest of the season last year, that was all a different position than I had ever been in.
Now we flash forward to where... where I am, where our team is this year, it's pretty incredible to see, you know, the progress and to be able to look back and compare.
And, you know, I just had my first World Cup podium in GS in over two years.
Because if you asked me last year, I might have said I don't believe that I'll be on the podium again in GS, and I don't even know that I'll be in the top 30.
Athletes bring in all different mentalities, all different shapes and sizes of energy and vibe going into the games.
There's a kind of mentality of being super positive and hyped and wanting to be involved in everything and soaking up every single moment.
You know, there's... there's more of a mentality where you're really like kind of looking for peace, maybe looking for the calm, quiet, focused moments and, you know, trying to live in that space.
And I think that for me is probably a little bit more what I'm gearing towards this time around.
This can be super intense and It can be kind of tough to balance the enjoyment of such a unique event and an incredible event with the sort of underlying current of basically how important performance is when you have you know, medal or bust mentality.
