Rosh Hashana 5784 - Listening to the Shofar

The symbol for Rosh Hashanah is the shofar.

And when it comes to the mitzvah of shofar, the specific mitzvah is to listen to the call of the shofar.

As the bracha states, So I heard an unbelievable d'var Torah from my Rebbe of Eitan Feiner that gets a little bit deeper into this idea of shmiah, of listening.

What does it mean to be the shmoah kol shofar? And how do we take it seriously? So interestingly enough, Rosh Hashanah, compared to all the other holidays of the year, it's like the one moment when it comes to the shofar time, right before Musaf, the rabbi gets up and goes, everybody has to be quiet.

The other time we find this, maybe it's by the Megilatis there.

But really, he tells everybody, you've got to be quiet for the shofar blast.

And it's like the one time of the year where the shul really gets quiet.

And everyone's listening.

And if the rabbi has enough koach in the shul, he's going to say, okay, we've got to be silent until the final shofar blast at the end of Musaf.

And then we have ourselves a full tefillah of quietness quiet, where we can listen, listen to the shofar blast, listen to the tefillah of the chazan, of all the deep ideas of what is the Kaddish Baruch Hu, the machiyot, the zichronot, shofarot.
