Episode 66 12.8.26

I see that the, uh, crisis at the Spanish enclave of Ceuta eventually resolved itself with, um, the hordes of Moroccan refugees or putative refugees who had descended upon the place eventually decided it was crap and went home.

Um, I can't say I blame them.

Uh, I was reminded of a story I covered for It's Been A Bad Week many years ago about, uh, some similarly aspirant, uh, refugees/migrants from, I think, Ecuador, who stowed away on board a ship which they believed was gonna drop them off in Miami about a day later.

And what actually happened was about two weeks later, it dropped them off at Tilbury Docks in Essex.

I have never been one to complain, but there's something that's bothering me.

I must confess myself a tad disappointed with Miami.

I wasn't visiting palm-fringed beaches surrounded by crystal seas.

Instead of clear skies and palm groves and shell streets driving in Ford Capris.

The rain is pelting, a cold wind is blowing, my innards have turned to ice.

I don't remember it looking like this when I used to watch Miami Vice.

I don't know how long I can survive on a diet of jellied eels.

Besides which, after six weeks at sea, I know just how a sardine feels.

Take me back home.

Why did I seek asylum? Don't know why I set foot in that boat, I must have been quite mad.

Take me back home.

Let me back in and I'll come.

All of a sudden oppression on Tortola's not really seemed so bad.
