Rob Wittman Goes After Spanberger's 'Bait and Switch' on Newsmax

On Newsmax Saturday night, the 1st District Republican called Gov. Abigail Spanberger's record "the ultimate bait and switch" and said his race comes down to turnout. Uriah Kiser breaks down the case Wittman is making to voters: if you don't like how Spanberger has governed in her first 10 months, send a message on Nov. 3. Uriah points to Spanberger's parole board granting release to violent offenders serving long sentences, and to criminal noncitizens being released without cooperation with ICE. He says Spanberger ran as a moderate who would work across the aisle and fight for affordability, and that Democrats instead raised taxes while utility bills kept climbing. He also points to the ban on assault-style firearms and magazines holding more than 15 rounds that she signed, and to the mid-decade redistricting plan that would have cost Wittman and three other Republicans their seats before the Supreme Court of Virginia struck it down. Why does Wittman matter here? He has represented the 1st District since 2007, and Uriah says he has never had to report a Wittman scandal. Wittman is a steady conservative with an uncanny ability to walk into a room and know everyone's name. His background fits a district of watermen, the Rappahannock River and the Chesapeake Bay: a biology degree from Virginia Tech, a master's in public health from UNC Chapel Hill, a doctorate in public policy from VCU, and 26 years in public health, including the Virginia Department of Health's Division of Shellfish Sanitation. So why are Democrats and outlets like WTKR in Hampton Roads focused on how much money he makes? Uriah argues that attacking success is the play when there's nothing else, while challenger Shannon Taylor, Henrico County's Commonwealth's Attorney, gets far less scrutiny of her own record as a prosecutor. A Washington Post-George Mason University Schar School poll of likely voters, taken Sept. 23-28, had Taylor ahead 50% to 46%. Wittman told Newsmax he's "very bullish."
