Send us Fan Mail In this episode we look back on the Vipers’ team’s semi-final against the Sharjah Warriorz, at the ICC Academy at Dubai Sports City…
Jack LuffmanGuestbatting first as the Vipers did in the league stage match between the two sides, their innings was a real mixed bag.
They struggled for momentum after Isra Ahmed was dismissed for 15 from only eight balls, but then Harshid Kaushik's 49 from 26 deliveries together with Zeeshan Abid's 41 in 21 balls, gave them a platform to press on in the later stages of the innings.
That didn't happen, as a hat trick by Junaid Siddiqui was key in ensuring just 23 came from the final three overs.
Still, the Vipers ended up with 16 more runs than they managed against the Warriors earlier in the tournament.
On that occasion, they pushed their opponents all the way, before being defeated by two wickets, so there was still a chance the final total of 171 for nine could be defended.
The Warriors made good progress and for a long time in their run chase, they were ahead of the Duckworth Lewis stern pass score.
They were 73 for one after eight overs and later on, They reached 101 for two in the 12th over.
Sanjay Pahal ran out Basil Hamid, who looked dangerous in scoring 31 from 20 balls, and then Sanjay and Kuzema Ben Tanvir were superb at the death.
Kuzema's last two overs cost just six runs, and he finished with one for 18 from his full allocation of four overs, and that included 13 dot balls.
Vitya Aravind used a total of eight bowlers in the innings, with Nilanj Keswani taking two for ten, while Angad Nehru captured one for 26.
Let's hear from head coach Jack Luffman after another breathless night at the ICC Academy.
