Vintage Market Report 2026 - Live Selling, Ebay Live, AI, Trends and more

This is not really new news, but it's something I want to talk about is eBay acquiring Depop.

Okay, eBay acquired Depop for a ton of money.

eBay currently is diving deep into vintage.

You know, they've always been, eBay's kind of been the winner for vintage for years and years and years, but they've got A lot of their market share got eaten up by these like, you know, younger generational apps like Depop, like gray old sock, even Etsy to some degree.

And then like now Poshmark and Vinted and things are coming in and taking a big part of the market.

So they bought Depop probably trying to get back into the graces of the younger generation.

But also eBay right now is jumping up.

deep into live selling and this is interesting because they actually gave me a call the other day because i have obviously i have an ebay account they're like do you want to get into live selling and i'm like well it's interesting you know i've done a bit of whatnot selling done a bunch of instagram selling over the years live ig selling back in the day during covid But eBay is trying to push hard into this space.

They're trying to get the vintage heads to go on.

And I'm wondering if they're going to like do this with Depop.

Are they going to like do live selling on Depop now? I don't know, but that's my assumption.

I'm going to probably try it out on eBay just to like see, do some market research.

But obviously, live selling, we know, has been a huge boom for a while now.

obviously started during COVID and now it's grown into this huge whatnot thing.

Other apps are getting into it and it has kind of like altered the market in a lot of ways.

The live selling thing, I'll talk about some more.

So eBay bought Depop for a massive amount of money.

They're probably going to jack fees eventually, in my opinion.

They aren't yet.

I think Depop is still pretty cheap on the fees.

And are they going to push live selling onto Depop? I don't know, but I would imagine they are because the younger generation is way more inclined to jump on a live and sell clothes than the older eBay demographic.

A lot of the vintage demographic on eBay is an older generation.

It's people who have been in the game for 20 years.

You know, eBay was the only game back in like the early 2000s, right? A lot of people's careers in vintage started selling on eBay and it was fucking goldmine back then.

It was so good.
