And as I was watching "Boyhood" this time, you know, twelve years later since it was released when I saw it in theaters the first time, and I'm sure I had re-watched it once or twice in between that time.

It's interesting to be seeing it again in theaters." And I was just kinda struck by how much time has moved through me and how much I've grown and changed in that twelve-year gap.

I was thinking how twelve years is both simultaneously a long period of time and, like, a blink, you know? Uh, I was like, "Jesus, twelve years has passed," and, you know, "Where will I be in another twelve? What moments lie waiting for me in my future?" And it was like I was just thinking about what all I had kinda done in twelve years because around the time that movie first came out, I had literally just moved from Indiana to be in Texas.

It was the first time I had ever moved away from my home state and been away from family, kind of embarking on a whole new adventure, just like Mason does at the end of the movie.

And at that time, I got hired by Apple, and I stayed there for over twelve years.

And it was actually really weird, uncanny timing because I had turned in my Apple work laptop the day that I went to the screening, and I had quit, like, a w- the, the week before.

And so Like I had, that movie existed in that whole chapter, that, that after Apple chapter of my life, and I was turning it in, getting ready to start something new and go on another adventure.

And, uh, during that 12-year span, I had gotten into like a serious relationship that had lasted five years but wasn't any good, and I eventually found the will to kind of break the chains on that and get free.

I got a dog out of happenstance from that bad ler- long-term relationship, and that dog, Lucy, has been my best friend ever since.

I went vegan, which was the right move for me, and I've, I've still been locked in it this whole time.

I started writing film reviews as a member of the independent press, which I no longer do, and I started this podcast, which is still going strong 'cause you're listening to it.

It's been over eight years now since I put that down, and it's interesting to watch this movie again 'cause I probably had a pitcher of beer sitting there watching this nearly three-hour movie when it first came out, and now here I am totally sober, not had a drink in eight years.

There's all this, you know, landmines of potential alcoholism and, and bad, bad vibes, um, [laughs] that are, that are lurking because of substance abuse.

I started taking care of myself more and working out more routi- routinely and running long distances and to the point where it's gotten normal for me to just go out on a Sunday, every Sunday, and, and hit a half-marathon distance just for fun because that's how fucking weird I am.

We just got hitched last year, and I acquired two more dogs out of that blessed union.

I went to Japan, where I got bit by the S- Sofubi bug, and I've been collecting soft vinyl toys ever since.

Um, I've written a few short pieces and made some decent headway on some novels that I've been juggling.
