It really depends a lot on the project because some people's open source projects is just some like utility that no one, most of the users don't even know that they're using, right? Think about some of these wildly high download count MPM packages that no one has ever heard of because it's some like three level deep transitive dependency of Vite or something, right? How are you going to monetize that? I don't know.
But if you're more of a high level project where your users actually chose the project specifically, then you're in a much better position.
