We start with a filing that tells you exactly what Southern Nevada is fighting over right now.

Switch, the Las Vegas data center company, has put plans in front of North Las Vegas for a campus it's calling Core 2.0.

Phase 1 is 175.8 acres across 14 parcels out near Apex Power Parkway and US 93 in the Apex Industrial Park.

486,000 square feet of building, two data centers, a logistics office, a fire pump house, and then the two pieces that actually matter, its own substation with a control house and its own switching station.

When a company builds its own substation and its own switching station, it's telling you it does not plan to wait in line for power.

bought more than 300 acres out there back in May for somewhere around $200 million.

The plans went in during August, and North Las Vegas has not scheduled them for planning commission or city council.

It's still early, which means the argument over land and power that every founder in this valley now builds inside is about to get made in public on a date nobody has set.
