Plug-in solar is the fastest growing corner of DIY solar, and Jeffrey from There's A Trick For That is the guy who tests it hardest. He's back for round two, and the whole episode is plug-in solar…
uh adam are you okay in there
i just i had i realized that i had forgotten to plug in my hardwired network connection and i didn't want everybody seeing me lean over to the floor yeah it
sounded like you had fell over broke your camera and then we're seizing on the floor or something so yeah turn it
off turn it off the camera is great except when you forget to turn the microphone off too
And while we're talking about problems, I see a few comments about people seeing commercials during the live stream.
off.
So
it must be a glitch because even some people with premium saying they're seeing ads.
sorry about that guys i yeah we always keep that off we don't want you all to have to watch it uh during the live stream we will put ads on afterwards for the replays but um sorry about that it's yeah that sounds like a glitch because even like i said if if you have premium you should never see an ad a day in your life yeah i haven't i haven't watched ads on youtube ever so uh that would be really weird to see them so that's a strange glitch
I think what I was saying before Adam distracted us with his noise, you can't take one of these things, go to an outbuilding that has no power, plug it into an outlet, put some panels up, and then power your shed, let's say, because it has to have that grid to follow, right?
So have you tried it with putting like a 12,000 XP or a hybrid inverter running it off grid and then adding it in to see if it would just run or it still wouldn't? to plug
in? That's something you have to be careful with.
A common one is a whole home backup generator that will turn on automatically when the grid goes down because the microinverter will sync to any power source that it thinks is grid power.
If you've got a power outage that occurs, the solar will shut down, but then let's say that your backup power solution boots up, and now all of a sudden at that outlet that that plug-in solar is connected to, it starts seeing what appears to be grid power, and it will boot back up, synchronize itself to that, and start producing power again.
The problem is your 12,000 XP or your whole home backup generator, whatever, is not the grid.
It can't divert the power that you generate in excess to your neighbor's house.
