On Writing Scooby-Doo books with John Sazaklis

If you could go back and write any book in the Scooby-Doo world, what would it be?

For me, this is kind of like, what is it, the one that got away? I would have loved to have done a Scooby-Doo Batman team-up because those were my favorite episodes aside from the ones that were Greek.

was whenever they teamed up with Batman.

I mean, the celebrities were great, the Harlem Globetrotters and, you know, the mamas and the papas.

And if you're old enough to remember who they were, that's wonderful.

But Batman and Robin have kind of, you know, they turned 85 this year, not 90, and they've been around for a long time.

Again, the world's greatest detective meets the mystery gang.

They, you know, they're like peanut butter and jelly.

So I would have liked to do that, to bring both those worlds together.

And maybe I still will be a bit.

If those get...

Because right now they're in comic book and graphic novel form.

If they ever go into more of a storybook, something that's educational or not, that would be great

for

me.

Speaking of long running, why do you think that Scooby Doo, a cartoon about a mystery solving dog, has lasted the test of time and is still so popular today?

That's an excellent question.

I don't think I'm going to have a very deep answer because, you know, the first thing that comes to mind is, I guess people love dogs.

A hungry dog, a silly dog, you know, something that makes you laugh.

I think the repetitive construct of the show.

You go along for a ride.

And then again, you know, from like early child development, it's like a monster in the closet.

It's just your imagination.

There's no such thing as ghosts.

It's a bad guy in a mask.
