Helen Louise Bailey was born on 5 March 1967 in Birmingham in the West Midlands.
She was the younger of the two children of father, Leslie, and mother, Margaret, with her brother, Adrian, being two years her senior.
The family were described as close-knit and lived together in Booth's Farm Road, a short distance from the remains of the Booth's Farm estate and just a stepping stone from the M6 motorway.
Leslie worked at the Severn Trent Water Authority and the two children attended schools in the local area, with Helen being a pupil of Cullshot Road Junior School in 1975.
Images which have been released of Helen across the years show a pretty young girl with long blonde hair, blue eyes and a smile in each photo.
She was described by her family as being bubbly, lively and chatty and a generally friendly child.
It's certainly clear from interviews given over the years that she was a much loved member of the Bailey family.
The two children were in the middle of their school summer break, giving the family an opportunity to spend some quality time together, away from the mundane or routine requirements of daily life.
