True Crime Catch Up - October 2026

So my first case is one I covered relatively recently.

It's the murder of Scott Pritchard.

So Scott was nineteen.

He lived in Sunderland.

He was recovering from a broken foot.

He was using crutches when he was attacked outside his home in January two thousand and four.

He was struck over the head with a baseball bat, and he suffered the most catastrophic head injuries.

It was literally just outside his back door.

He was taken to hospital, but he died from those injuries.

And what really intrigued me about this case is what happened afterwards.

The investigation was huge, but despite that, the murder remained unsolved for about fourteen years.

And actually, something we've seen in a few cases, one of the most distressing aspects for the family was Scott's own dad became a suspect, and he spent sixteen weeks on remand before the case against him was dropped.

And the case against him was, uh, is embarrassingly bad.

You know, really, really poor.

So you've got this poor family dealing with the murder of their son, and then the dad is being accused of having killed him.

So you know what happens to the families of those that are suspected Everyone's pointing and everyone, even when he's released, people saying, "Oh yeah, but he must have done it." That's what happens, isn't it? It still happens today.

So they couldn't even return home to the family home.

But get this, 2018, completely out of the blue, the person responsible walked into a police station.

This was Karen Tunmore, who had been a children's football coach.

She went to a police station, confessed to killing Scott.

She said she couldn't live with the guilt anymore.

She said she had attacked Scott with a baseball bat following a dispute over money.

She pleaded guilty to murder, sentenced to life in prison, 17 and a half years.

Now, there's so many things about the case.

Firstly, somebody just actually walking in and confessing.
