Episode #158: The Suspect in the Smoke

But today, for episode 158, we're going to be discussing book 115, The Suspect in the Smoke.

And this book came out all the way back in 1993.

So this book had a lot to do with recycling, rec centers, and fundraisers.

And surprisingly enough, there was actually a Michael Jackson reference in this Nancy Drew book.

That was not on my bingo card.

I was not expecting that.

And it was so funny.

But we'll get to that a little later in the episode.

But let's talk about this book cover.

So this book is yellow with some green accents.

And we have Nancy and Bess in the foreground.

I really like their outfits here.

It looks like Bess is wearing leggings with a red sweater and a headband.

And Nancy is wearing a black turtleneck sweater with some jeans and a belt.

It's a really classy, classic look.

And we have Cory Barnes.

He's one of the suspects in the book.

He's a young kid.

He's redheaded and he's in the background on a skateboard.

And we have this burgundy car that has smoke pouring out of the hood.

And the tagline on this book cover is, an arsonist has struck in River Heights, and now it's Nancy who's feeling the heat.

Now, if you ever want to see these book covers, I post them on my Instagram, TruDrewPodcast, on Wednesdays before the episodes come out on Thursdays.

But the funny cover spoof that I came up with for this one is, Nancy, don't look now, but there goes Chucky on a skateboard.

Because the way they depicted Cory Barnes, he kind of looks like Chucky, you know, that doll from the 1980s, 1990s horror film series, which I have to admit, I've never watched that series.

I'm not a big horror movie buff.
