What do you do when God cares about someone you don’t? What if the people you’ve written off, disagreed with, or decided don’t deserve another chance are still deeply loved by God? Jonah shows us how…
As we get started with the message, I want you guys to imagine something with me.
I want you to imagine that God tells you to go talk to the one person or the one group of people in the world you absolutely do not want to talk to.
Not the people who annoy you.
Not the people who disagree with you.
The people who have actually hurt you.
The people you believe deserve what they have coming.
That is the book of Jonah.
Jonah is an Old Testament book, which is like the first half or two-thirds of your Bible, the Old Testament.
And this book tells the story of a prophet.
The prophet is Jonah.
Jonah refuses and attempts to flee by ship.
And he doesn't just attempt to flee or refuse.
He flees by ship.
Jonah's not the only one on the ship.
There's other people.
They're trying to figure out what's going on.
They discover that Jonah's the problem and they decide that he needs to go overboard.
So Jonah's thrown into the sea.
God sends a great fish that swallows him for three days and nights where Jonah changes his mind, understandably.
