Most of us don’t really understand what it’s like to love someone deep in addiction...until we’re living it. In this earnest and valuable conversation, Anita Ondine Smith opens up about being married…
Will GordonHostIs it when you lose your house? Is it when you lose your family? Is it when you're attempting suicide? What is rock bottom? And that's going to be different for everybody.
And I think that the important thing is that people don't understand they don't have to go that far.
as soon as you think of getting help, which is usually as soon as you can admit to yourself that the problem exists.
So in the early stages of me trying to talk to Randy about my concerns, I go into a lot of detail in my book about communication because I think that probably was the number one thing that I struggled with in this journey is I didn't know how to talk with him about it.
For somebody who's usually quite chatty, as I am, I love talking, I love conversation, I suddenly felt mute sometimes.
You know, when I would try and talk to him about this and then there were conversations where I said, you know, is this possibly impacting you negatively? Have you considered maybe slowing down or stopping? You know, I went into it gently in the beginning and, you know, I got gaslighted by him.
You know, the magic, those magic words, don't worry, I can stop any time.
